Position/Term: Permanent/No Camp/No FIFO
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Work Schedule: 5/2, Monday-Friday

What will I be doing?
- Strategic & Financial Oversight: Lead business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability initiatives to support sustainable growth and operational success.
- Operations & Production Management: Oversee all welding and machining activities, ensuring efficient workflows, cost control, and adherence to quality, safety, and delivery targets.
- Project Execution & Delivery: Manage fabrication projects end-to-end, ensuring timelines, budgets, and technical specifications are consistently achieved.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Implement robust QA/QC systems aligned with AWS, ASME, ABSA, CWB, and ISO standards to maintain inspection readiness and traceability.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Foster a proactive safety culture through enforcement, audits, training, and hazard mitigation, ensuring compliance and safe operations.
- People & Talent Development: Recruit, train, and mentor teams to ensure high performance, skill growth, and workforce retention across operations.
- Client & Vendor Relations: Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners, providing technical support and resolving quality or delivery concerns.
- Business Development & KPI Management: Support estimating, quoting, and opportunity identification while tracking KPIs to improve efficiency, quality, and profitability.
What does Acden need from me?
Required
- Alberta Certified Journeyperson or Interprovincial Red Seal in Machining, Millwright, or Welding.
- Valid Class (Five) 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial operations, including welding and machining environments.
- Advanced financial knowledge, including excellent grasp of balance sheets, profit & loss statements (P&L), and budgets.
- Proven experience in welding and machining operations management, including production planning and shop floor systems.
- Experience in project management within custom fabrication environments.
- Successful execution of strategic initiatives with measurable business impact.
- Demonstrated P&L responsibility and strong financial performance management.
- In-depth technical knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW), metallurgy, and machining operations.
- Understanding of welding codes, industry standards, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and strategic thinking abilities.
- Crisis management experience with the ability to resolve high-pressure challenges.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
What are the "nice to haves?
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering or related field.
- Experience leading change management and organizational transitions.
- Familiarity with metallurgical testing and quality assurance procedures.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software and modern fabrication technologies.
Asset
- Post-secondary diploma in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or another advanced degree.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certifications related to welding, machining, or quality.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple departments.
- Advanced welding certifications or specialized process expertise.
- Advanced problem-solving skills for complex fabrication and engineering challenges.
